50 Years Baden-Soellingen

50 Years ago the first fighter aircraft's landed at Soellingen's airport, from then on a new era began.
This anniversary called for a celebration decided Herbert Lienhart the President of the German-Canadian Air Force Museum.

The members of the German-Canadian Air Force Museum planed and organized a versatile program to entertain young and old. The Museum doors were opened and would welcome its 5000 visitor. Mr. Lienhart presented the native of Iffezheim who is married to a former Canadian Soldier a gift certificate for a local sightseeing flight. More flights could be won in an ticket draw, a total of 21 helicopter flights where up for the grabs.

There was something for everyone, the children where entertained with pony rides and a bouncing castle. For the not so airplane orientated one could enjoy a great display of vintage cars and motorcycles. If this was still to much high-tech, one could enjoy a leisurely horse drawn carriage ride.

The main interest as one would expect was the aeronautic. The most interest went towards the two fighter jets a Mirage and a Tornado. Tornado Pilot Paul Deissinger and armourer Oliver Horz supplied the visitors with an array of information about equipment and their jobs. Unfortunately the fighter jets were grounded due to weather condition. However the weather could not stop Toni and Walter Eichhorn. The legendary show pilots pleased the crowd with twist and turns in their Texan/Harvard T-6.

Mr. Lienhart and his team of 75 volunteers were very pleased with the turn out of the event, seeing the long line ups in the food- and beverage hanger made the efforts of planing this event worth wile.
