Finally, just getting around to signing on. Was a basebrat, (Dare I say, the luckiest)...Lahr '75-79, Baden'79-92. Graduated BSS '83. Skied 'til '89, went to college tor 3 months, then went skiing again 'til '92. 1992, I married Stuart Rodgers, (3RCR), We have 4 year old son, Tyler. Gateguard 87-89. Worked the gas station, golf course, curling club, CE section, RI barsupervisor, etc, etc. (What did you expect being of the working age from 1982-1992. Had to do something during the off-season.) My dad was Bill Betts - also has spent the better half of his life overseas in Lahr/Baden. When he retired from the forces in '84, he became manager of the Chimo Ski Club, and also at the Baden Hills golf club. My mom, Genevieve Betts, worked at Base supply '81-'94. They just recently moved from Jffezheim, to our farm in France. I have been over 3 times since 1992. And plan to go over again this summer. My sister, Cathi, is also in Trenton. My brother, Pat, is in Hamilton. I am still a ski instructor, had my own desktop publihing and art business, It's true what they say about starving artists. For the last three years, I have been a personal financial analyst. Would love to hear from anyone, especially co-workers, skiers and friends. Any messages for my Mom or Dad, I will gladly pass them on. They will come for a visit in a few months. For all my years in Germany, there's not too many names I recognize in the guestbook. Which means that there are literally thousands of you out there, reading the guestbook, but not signing on. After Germany, I was in Petawawa, for 7 years. I have lost touch with just about everyone. It would be really great to reconnect. Tschuss. Nana. (email me at StuartNana@aol.com)

Oh my!!! Now what a site! Amazing to see all these old friends from high school. I was in Baden from 84-94...yeah ten years....guess I liked it. Of course after the base closed I moved down to Offenburg and started to work for a European trucking company. came back to Montreal in 94 and continued in this field. Today I have my own trucking company...hauling cars for Canadian auctions...between Montreal and Toronto. Anyways everyone remembers me as Mercedes Man Dan!! Oh god do I miss that car!! Anyways it reallly is cool to see all these names after almost ten years. Hope to hear from some of you. By the way if you are wondering....Ghyslain Simoneau ( Jai like it!!) lives with me. Guess us frogs have to stick together. By the way if anyone knows Robert Berube (little Bobby) than give me a shout......I know he joined the Forces as an officier. Take care and best wishes for the new year!!

Holy Moley! I stumbled upon this page while following links from the RCAF site. Talk about a trip down memory lane: I have come across the names of so many old friends... more than I ever knew a I had! Anyway, I worked at Baden (EDAL) ATC, '82 - '88 Wish I could do it all again (and maybe remember more of it this time.) Man, has it already been 12 years? If any of you know me (and have no scores to settle ), please drop me a line. Danke schoen und auf wiedersehn!

I am currently on the phone with Raina Caddey reminiscing about the most developmental years of our lives. Fortunately, all that time and money spent idolizing Duran Duran has paid off as I am Simon LeBons manager and we are planning a Reunion Tour to coordinate with our reunion in Winnipeg this summer! I know Sean and Brian (satan worshippers!) will be looking forward to it. We are planning to go in our best Eurotrash - mesh beggar gloves, flourescent scarves and socks to match. Is there a name to describe that phenomenon of thinking you looked great in school, but in looking back 15 years later you realize it must have been the beer tent glow! Keeping my fingers crossed that I will see some of you this summer or perhaps receive an email or two?

A great site. Just browsed through it on this, the start of the new millenium.Would be a pleasure to hear from some of the old gang that opened the Base in 1953. It was exciting and interesting to be the first BPERO at 4(F) Wing 1953-54 and be in on the planning and development of the base. Several visits over the next 25 years brought back many fond memories. All the best to the alumni of Baden-Soellingen as the new century begins.

Well, I last signed the book in 98, so I guess I should update! I was a base brat in Baden from 70-73 Baden Intermediate (Gr 5-7). I was posted to baden from 88 - 93 & worked at Base Flight & Tool Control til closure. My wife Jackie worked at Base Supply and the Wo & Sgts mess. I hosted the "Not Necessarily The Top 40" show on CFNS radio on saturday nights, and was a member of the Baden Playmakers for the last few years of my tour. I'm now a civvie programmer in Ottawa. I can honestly say that the "Baden Years" were the best years of my life, and it's great to see the names of so many old friends. Keep up the good work!

Hello fellow RCR'S. I served with 3 RCR from 87-91. I really enjoyed the tour in Germany and there were alot of good times had by all. I work full time as a "Motion Picture Armorer" in the film industry here in Vancouver. The job is great and I curently have 151 credits to my name. Nice site! Refered to us by Cam & Gert Audet, great military folks that became locals. We were dragged away from Baden in 1984 after only 3 short years in paradise. Nicole worked in the Canex / Bacos & Berg, and I worked in Base Ops whenever we weren't travelling or spending money. Came home with 12000 lbs F&E ( that was when we still had to pay our own shipping ). Looked through several pages in the guest book but didn't find anyone I knew. Maybe someone will remember us. < These past few days the world.s press and TV informed us of the violant weather which caused havoc all over Europe, this including Western Germany bordering France.I recall shorthly after my arrival at 4 (F)Wing in late June 1958 and shortley there after a violant wind stoems hit the Baden/Baden region. This particular afternnon I had left the base to drive in my Armstrong Siddely,(Rolls Royces Cousin)to my new apartment in Baden/Baden.that,s when a vialant storm hit the region I had just entered the village of Hugie from the base when I saw roof tiles from every structure in the village fly all over the place.no roofds escaped untouch all their rafters were exposed and then rain squalls began.I stept on the gas to avoid fying debris and on the country rd to RatstattI made my right hand turn in the direction of baden when suddenly the pine trees began to sway in all direction and snap like tooth picks this was the forest area between the Hugie to Ratstatt and to Baden shrly before the turn off to the autoban.I saw a tractor trailer stoped by the side of he road as pine trees what was left of hem were scattered all allover the road making driving extremely hazardeous. Then brought my car to a halt and parked parralell to the tractor trailer for protection agaisnt falling trees.the storm lasted just a short while but enough to cause untold damages to the immediate area. The guardian of the Forest were busy for months cleanning the forest area of damages trees that laid all over the grounds. All home owners of the area Hugie etc.had extreme difficulties in obtaining roof tiles as millions of them were required.Of course for manufactures and dealers in became a bonanza for them but for a long while many homes had to protect themselves from the elements by installing tarps over the their roofs and then even these were hard to come by.THe base itself was not to badley hit but the trees at the entrance of the base and all the way in those days to the rec hall (skating rink) etc were as damamged as the forest itselph. The purpose of these comments is to remaniss a little, but it,s an episode of my stay in Baden that I will never forget.

I was stationed In Baden Soellingen in 1971 as a reservist with the famous 3 Mechanized Commando. As an 18 year old it was quite an experience that I will never forget. I carried on after Germany and obtained the rank of CWO and was Regimental Sergeant Major of Canada's oldest and finest regiment The Queen's Own Rifles Of Canada. What a great website. I have found many friends through the guestbook with whom I have not been in touch with for many years. I was with 2PPCLI and stationed in Baden from 84-88. How quickly the years have passed. When Lois and I speak of Germany it brings back so many good times. Sure miss the beer tents every weekend, the snowballs, not the bugouts. But mostly we miss our friends. Hope to see many of you at the reunion in Kenora. Have two children now Matthew who is 7 and Samantha who just turned 6. Hard to believe I've been out for 11 years already. Any PPCLI's out there drop me a line.

I have already registered with Baden Remembered page and would like all out there in network land to know that the Royal Canadian Legion is still going strong in Germany in the village of Sollingen and with the approach of the new millennium we will celebrate our twentieth year in the vast membership of the legions throughout Canada. If any of you are in the area during the time of September 16th 2000 you are welcome to join us in our celebrations. Ask anyone in Sollingen where we are located and they will tell you. We have a great rapport with the local population. Our German Canadian reaction during the Canada Day celebrations are very well attended and many lies are swapped about the good old days. There are many building projects going on at the old base and the changes are immense. Next year there will be an increase in flights to all parts of the world forecast for the future. More to come later. Syd Phillips.

Jerry and I were stationed here from 75-80. Jer worked at the transmitter site and spent most of his leisure time in the bowling alley. Baden was by far our best posting. Lots of great memories..like snowballing. Would love to hear from old friends. We're living outside London on the 401..well not ON it..but a stone's throw away. Think of our old friends often.

Great site. Was in Baden 84-88 and have the best memories. What a life we had!! Really choked that they closed the base down, it would have been great to see it again before the change. My brother Sean and I are in Calgary and would love to hear from everybody. Stll in contact with the Ballam brothers and we see Darren Hawrish on a frequent basis. Talked to the Fowler brothers and I think we have talked little Ray into moving to Calgary. It looks like the reunion in Winterpeg is going to take off, maybe we should rename it "Mox-Nix Goes to Winterpeg"

Great site!! My father was stationed in Baden 1959 - 1963 and again 1968-1973. My sister and I went to Rhine Valley Park the first four years. The thing I remember the most is the sports that were available to all of us. But we must not forget that we were also allowed to have mopeds at a young age. Would love to hear from anyone over there at that time. I just sent emails to Janet Arsenault and Sharon Ansell who are listed on this site. There are lots of people I would like to find out how they are doing so even if your stay there just overlapped the 1959-1963 peiod drop me a line.

After hearing of this website, and taking a look for myself, i am astonished at the amount of history there is about the base in its past and present history After having my geart grandfater convey over the years the stories of the experience that he had when he was posted there. I find that the information is very accurate as he has told my family. I hope that this site also has the same effect on others as it has I.

I found this site the Summer of 1998. It is wonderful to see photos of familiar things and to see familiar names online. My husband, Brian Joudrey, was with 3 Mech and we were stationed in Baden-Soellingen, 1972-1975. I worked at the Base Switchboard. Our son, Patrick, was born prematurely in Lahr in June 1975 and died in Freiburg after living six and a half hours. Brian and I have two children, Catherine (1976) and Earl (1978). Hello from Wayne and Arlene Robbins. This is a terrific idea as it gives a person time to reflect on the good times that we had during our stay from 1977 to June of 81. We toured some and visited a lot with the people that we worked with and from that tour we have developed long lasting friendships that we still enjoy to this day. We sure have some great memories of the tour and it makes me sad that the base is gone ending a fantastic period
