Just stopped by to say hi! Nice web site. I had the chance to find a few friends from my days in Germany (and elsewhere) and hope to hear from a few more.

I was posted to Baden Soellingen fron 1980 until 1984 and this posting was the best one I ever had. Anyone knows the whereabout of Henri Cubina he was with the Rastatt police department. I'm back to Germany and presently posted to the Canadian Embassy in Bonn.

Great page. Great work Sonja and Paula. Nothing against the Army but 4 Fighter Wing was created as an air base and being there from 64 to 67 that's how I will remember it. No wonder all you Brown jobs call it the best posting you ever had. Any other AFP's (MeatHeads)out there from the 64-67 era. Have recognized a few names in your guest book and will be e-mailing them. Keep up the good work. 4F Wing will be remembered by this old MeatHead.

Well, I guess since I didn't leave much info on my first entry, I'll do it now! :-) I was in Baden as a brat from 70-73, then again as a tech with Base Flight from 88 to base closure in 93. I DJ'd at CFNS, running the "Not Necessarily The Top 40" request show on saturday nights & made my theatrical debut with the Baden Playmakers & "A Funny Thing Happened On the Way To The Forum". The memories are incredible! To those who know me, feel free to drop me a line! (I recognize alot of names here!) Thanks for the nostalgia, Paula!

Great site. I even recognize some od names. I was there from 75-79 with 3 Mech/3RCR and again from 80/84 with 1CAG. As I am now again back in Europe, I have been down to the Baden area several times. There are surprisingly many Canadians and locals of those days still around. Check out the RC Legion on the Hauptstr in Soellingen if you are in the area. Regards

I worked with the German Police in Lahr from 1969-18, the last 5 yearsas instructor in the Police Academy. Immigrated to Canada in 1981 and nowwork for the Saskatoon Police Service. The many friends I made in the CanadianArmed Forces were certainly a factor when I decided toimmigrate, a step I never regretted. Even after somany years here in Saskatoon I keep running into peoplewho had spent time in Lahr with the Forces. For those who remember Reiner Hildebrandt from the German-Canadian Club in Lahr, he now lives in Langley, B.C.with his family. If you need his address let me know.Wolfgang Pollmann/Saskatoon

Hello all,I was born in the base hospital on August 8, 1974. My parents are Bob and Betty Lamarche. My only regret is that I never got over there to see my birthplace before it was torn down. For anyone who knew my parents, my father is retired now, and they are settled in Petawawa.I am the mother of one boy, Aidan, and a graduate of Small Business Management. My sister,Dawn, is a Computer Programmer. If anyone wants to get a hold of my parents, e-mail me, and I will pass it on.

Great site idea. Visited the base on a European tour not long ago and it was a shame to see all those memories gone to the wind...thanks to your site, some will remain very much alive. Only spent 2 years myself (at Baden Senior - then off to the army) while parents remained for 7 since they loved it so much. Anyone remembering John and Rose can get in touch with them in Calgary. Special hello to all CFNS staff from the last Hideaway Show DJ.

I am an Air Force Brat posted to Baden from 1964 to late 1967. For the first 2 years we lived in Malsh right on the town square on the third floor across from the gashaus. Malsh celebrated their 900th birthday while we were there. I remember grade 1 on base in 1965. We were the first to get on and the last to get off the bus that went through Rastatt. Fond memories. We moved on base for the last 2 years. I remember sneaking through the fence and running through the forest and playing in the WWII trenches. Also raiding the local Chestnut trees (off base). I also remember the construction and the first year or so of the new "teen town" rec centre near our apt. We had great fun. Touring on weekends and summer holidays on the French Riviera. We were in Marville, France for the 3 years before Germany. When we came back to Canada I was 8 and had spent about 7 years in Europe. My father is Roy (JCR)Thompson who was in to electronics. My mother is Agnes. Brothers Darcy & David. And sister Debbie born in 4 wing. If you recognize anyone contact me.

Well done. I was in Baden from 78-80 and was posted to Lahr in '89. I had a chance to go back and see the old base then and found a lot of changes. Anyone who was there in '78 will really see the changes now. To the web staff, keep up the good work.

Hi, what a great site! My dad was posted to 421 Squadron between 1978 and 1980, WO Art Sibley. We really enjoyed our time there, and I have many fond memories of class trips to the Alsace-Lorraine area, castles, etc. I really miss all those Volksmarches we went on!

Just surfing the "Net" and happened to find your site. Boy talk about happy Flash-backs. Claire & I and our two girls Nicole & Celina had great time in Baden and we have never really gotten over having to leave. We tried to get posted back immediately after returning to Canada, but never succeeded. We were all broken-hearted when we heard about the close-out and truly hope we can at least get back to the area sometime. In the meantime we can at least visit there through your great site. Thanks for your efforts!

Joanne and I were in Baden 1989 to Closure. I worked in Base Supply and Joanne worked at CFNS and later during the closure in the Postal section. Mathew was an after Baden addition. There is a golf tournament held every two years for those old Baden golfers who wish to rekindle old times. This year it is in Trenton on Sept 4 and 5th. Ruth and Dave Lynch are hosting it. If you wish info call me at 514-252-2777 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 514-252-2777 end_of_the_skype_highlighting ext 4863 if I do not answer leave a message I will return your call. There was a tournament in Petawawa in 1996 17 members were present. Come on people do not let the memory die. Take care , health and prosperity to all.

Enjoyed the site. In fact has renewed old contacts. We were in Baden 1987-1992 (second tour) and enjoyed every minute. Security Guard I was in Baden Soellingen during June 1986 until I closed the gates with my co-worker Johanna Granger and my boss Dave Draper. Since I left Germany in January 1994, I lived in Edmonton, Greenwood, Burlington and now down here in California, but I still remember the good times we had in my homeland Germany and all time wondered what happened to all the people I used to work with on the "Gates". Thank's to this site it will be a little easier to catch up with some of you.

Fred was in charge of the Investigations section, Military Police, and I was first reporter and then editor of the Baden Soellingen section of Der Kanadier. Loved Europe, loved Baden cried when we left, took years to get used to being back here and still don't really enjoy it as much as I did in Baden. Fred retired in 1993 from Kingston, Ontario and we moved to Halifax, his hometown, where he opened his own busines, CSI, Canadian Security and Investigations Ltd., along with another MP and he is doing very well. Does a lot of investigation of insurance fraud and surveillance. I am working at the Halifax International Airport Security Section, so if anyone from Baden is flying through, stop and say Hi.
