My wife and I love the web-site! We were stationed at #4 Wing,Baden-Soellingen from August 1967-August 1970 and I was an Air Force Policeman.My wife Cathy was a nurse I had met when stationed at R.C.A.F.Station Chatham and 4 wing was really our first home; our daughter Maria was born at the 4 Wing hospital on December 3rd,1967 and we have many fond memories of the base and West Germany. I retired from the Canadian Forces in March,1990 and three days later joined Canada Customs as an Inspector and am currently working out of Saint John,N.B. All the best to anyone I have met or worked with through the years and a happy New Year to all!!

Interesting site!
Why did time seem to go so slow then... and so fast now? Hard to believe it has been ten years since I left Baden. They were good times! I am a teacher in Wpg now, getting married, and travelling every chance I get. Caught the travel bug there. Happy New Year!

MP 89-closure. I check the site every once in a while. It never fails to bring a smile and a wistful thought. Great job Sonja and Paula, of whom, I know both from their days on the gates. I just wish it were possible to turn back the clock. Thanks for the memories.

I was in Petewawa this Summer for the verry first time, and I had so much fun and exitment. I lerned quite abit about the town, about world war 1 and world war 2. I went to the Museum on the base, and took lots and lots of picture, simply because i wanted the memorie's and to show em to my grand-Parents who served the world war two, But forchanaly, my camara was broken, and thats is why i am here trying to find memorie of my past Summer. I was quite surprise how much the town looks clean.. and taken care of.

It has been months since I was on here. Today - 10 Dec. - I met someone, Gina Olofson, who was at BSS when I was stationed at B-S, 1980-84. I had done computer work for her father - Ole Olofson. He left in 1981 from the Avionics Hanger. I went to it in late 1981. There has been no snow for a week. Almost cut the grass on 30 Nov. It is now 10 yr. since I took off the blue uniform. Joined the Air Force Ass'n of Canada - formerly the RCAFA, and we now have our own bldg. It is the former town hall of the former town of Grand Centre. Tschuss for now. -- Ken

Stumbled on this site last night and could'nt put it down; surfed for hours and various familiar names brought on fond memories. I served in Baden from 63 to 65 and again from 77 to 81. Has anyone heard from Wayne and Innis Bright, he served in Baden in the early sixties.

Ran across this site by accident & without doubt, it's one of the best that I've seen for a military site. My wife Glenda & I were in Baden from 1982 until 1984. I was Supply on the CAG side of the base & Glenda was Weapons Tech Air with 439 Sqn & then Base Armamemnt Maintenance. Our time in Baden was the best 2 years our lives. We met so many people and visited so many historical places. The slide shows on this site brought back many good memories. Was so saddened when the base was closed, but that's progress. So glad to recognize many names on this site. Hope more military & retired military keep posting messages on this site. This one should never to be allowed to go away.

Mark,Pat and Heather were living in Germany from 1975-80. We lived in Weitnung and had the best time of our lives. We would very much like to here from Ernie Grambeck whom I believe still lives in Rittersbach. She has a son Uve and a daughter Michelle. We regret having lost contact with her. If anyone knows her could they please tell her that we would like to hear from her. We hope some day soon to return to Germany as she holds many fond memories for us.

Well again I feel the need to post something. Since being born into the military I have been travelling ever since, despite my fathers retirement. I must say that Canada is a beautiful place with many beautiful people. It would be nice though if there were ways that we could bring the memories of Baden into Canada. It's difficult since we are spread not just through Canada but the whole world. I realize that we could never truly go back to those days, but seeing these pages puts a little shiver down my spine. NOSTALGIA! In my travels I've had a few run-ins with past friends from the Europe and with this I am hopingto run into more. So please if I'm remembered....EMAIL ME :)

~~~ CANADA!~~~ From the Atlantic to the Pacific A natural paradise of mountains and lakes Land of freedom and the future For all of our offspring: "Canada."~~~ The maple leaf, our emblem and flag Carried with honor: red, white and red. Be proud of that with our children Here, where we earn our daily bread.~~~ We have all immigrated From many places in this world. Through respect and acceptance of one another We will grow strong together.~~~ Tradition and heritage: Customs, languages and religions Pass them down to the children: Our daughters and sons.~~~ The values of their homeland Every child should learn to prize, But in pride of this country They should call themselves Canadians.~~~ Never deny your forfathers Who they were or where they came from. Remember in your heart what they stood for, And what they have given you, my dear child. ~~~ Written in the german language in 1983 for Heritage Day by Hartmut Reinsch Toronto Canada. Translated by myself into the english language to share it with all Canadians.~~~ This poem is intended to promote the development of a better awareness and understanding among Canadians of every heritage! Greetings for Christmas time to all "CANADA fans" come from Hartmut Reinsch in Toronto .
Folks, your airbase has become sort of my base for flights from EDSB to Berlin Tempelhof on Cirrus Air (Dash-8). It's great to see that so many of you have fond memories of your time here. You are missed by many of the folks around here. I have lived in Minneapolis for some time which, I gues, is as close as it gets to living in Canada. For those of you who enjoy flightsimulation and have Fly2K on their computers, there is a scenery available that I created that covers the area from Baden Airpark up to Heidelberg/Mannheim. It is available at www.avsim.com (file library). Do a search for Baden or Michael Klein. Best, Michael
An excellent webpage that as everyone says brings back a lot of great memories! I was employed in Base Supply from 1985 until 1989. It is great to see that the old base (in part) is still there and the great community hospitality continues with new visitors arriving daily. Perhaps one day, dollar permitting, we can have 1 big reunion there for anyone whomever stepped foot on that base. It was the best. To the webmaster, job well done. Thank you.
Wow, what a wonderful sight. It's so nice to see that everyone has the same fond memories of Germany that I do. I was in Baden with my family Doug and Lorraine(parents) and Rachelle(sister) from 1987 - 1991. I attended BES and BSS during that time. I was recently in Germany, and although I didn't have time to go to Baden, it still felt great to be back in the country. Well, if anyone remebers me or my family, fell free to contact me!
Hallo! I write from Weitenung, a village quite near SÖLLINGEN in BADEN. You can remembered the WINTER-CARNEVAL in the Base till 1992? Than you know the carneval (=Fastnacht) in Weitenung (calls "Widdenung" in the carneval-time)as well. Look at our new homepage www.NG-Widdenung.de and if you wish, come and see the Winter-Carneval at 01.03.2003 in Weitenung.
I just discovered this site a few days ago and have enjoyed reading through he entries. There are a few names I recognize. My family was in Baden from June '68 to June '72. I have a sister, Tara, and a brother, Brian. I graduated from Baden Senior School in 1971. My four years in Baden were, by far, four of the best years of my life. I have many fond memories. I am looking forward to the 4 Wing High School reunion in June 2003. If you know who I am, please e-mail me. I'd love to hear from you.
Hi to our friends in Canada and the USA! On October 13th 2002 we will upload some live pictures of our famous Wendelinusfest (Horse Parade) on our website Leiberstung.de Church starts at 9:00 in the morning (our time) and there will be some pictures of the priest and the people walking along the main street of Leiberstung at about 9:30. The Horse Parade starts at about 14:00 (after lunch :-) and takes about two hours. There will be many pictures of coaches filled with more or less famous people. We will try to upload a new picture every two minutes. You can watch the pictures on this website: http://www.leiberstung.de/livecam2002/index.php4 If you have any problems watching the pictures you can always try to watch the pictures on this alternative website: http://www.leiberstung.de/livecam2002/livecam2.html You don't have to translate these websites with google (so something similar), just be sure to reload the website from time to time to see the latest pictures. All pictures (JPEG) will be here in this filelist (if you missed one): http://www.leiberstung.de/livecam2002/bilder Later there will also be a website which will show all the pictures as small thumbnails you can enlarge. Moreover I am sure the new "picture of the week" will also be dedicated to the Wendelinusfest...
I was amazed to find this fantastic site! My brother Rick ,dad Richard and mom Joyce and I have great memories of Germany.Dad was with 2RCR in Soest and then we all moved south to Baden as part of 3Mech. Fond memories of hitchhiking to the base with Chuck Phillips to go to the movies, being a bus monitor ,riding our bikes to Steinbach to the swimming pool , ski week in Bieberwier Austria , Hockey games at the base and on and on. Names like Rick Skehen, Wanda Heffler,Lynne and Dallas Dore, Brenda Thibodeau, Bonnie, Tierre Phillips and various others come to mind. Anyone who remembers me , or even thinks they do ,please feel free to e-mail! We were among the first tennants of the 4 story walk-ups built for us on the south side of Weitenung. I believe it was 1970-71 or therabout(I remember the laying of the interlocking brick sidewalks!)If you know of Chuck Phillips or His dad Rollie, living in Calgary as of the mid seventies, let me know. I remember all the good times I had on that base and would love to visit the country again. My father is Gordon Wight , he was a coroporal with the photo section , worked at the junior ranks mess. I have an older sister Lillian , and a younger brother Paul. My mom Connie passed away a few years ago (1997). We had a pinball machine on our balcony that really attracted the june bugs. Loved going to the SPAR in Hugie and getting firecrackers without the parents permission. The "summer fun" program was great. Catching lizzards.
