WOW! I stumbled across this great site and suddenly the best part of my life flashed before me. I was a local teenager living in Hugi from 1974 - 1981. Quarry parties, Room International on Wednesdays,Tiffany's, "Moped Gangs", Foxtrott at the beer and wine fests. My little green 24hp Volkswagen buggy was always recognised at the security gate especially once I met my then wife-to-be Karen Reimchen who worked as a communications reserve during 1978 /1979. I miss all my Canadian and German friends from that time. Moving to Vancouver was almost a culture shock - where are the beer fests and Baggersee parties? I would also like to contact Cathy Poisson (maiden name, 1975 - early 80s). I think she worked in the clothing department of the Canex. Her dad was MWO Maurice Poisson. I also miss the Straub and Nedoborski family which lived on our house on Bannwald Strasse 1 in Hugi. I will never forget Baden Soellingen, our home. If someone remembers me (Norbert Knauer) please drop a note at "NorbertBC@Yahoo.com".

Hello All, I saw a lot of names on here that I remember well. I was posted to Baden from '84-'88 with 2PPCLI. I had the good fortune to go back again in early '93 during a tour in Yugo to see the base just before it closed. I have many special memories from those days and they went by all too quickly. I would love to hear from old friends that may read this. Awsome website!

I was with the 2PPCLI from 84 to 88. Being stationed in Germany was one of the best times of my life, or maybe one of the wildest times. I read through most of the guestbook and seen many old buddies. It's to bad those time had to end. So take it easy and don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy.

I was born in Baden 4 sep 1965, then left in 68. There's not much I remember first hand but my dad was a big shutterbug with tons of super pictures. my father is Les Hine he was a refinisher there from 63 to 68. I am in the Air Force now and had an oppertunity to go back in 1991 before it closed. Although my memories were very vague, only being 3 years old when we left, I was able to find our old house on the base without any problem. My family often talk about fond memories of 4 Wing (My mom Clare, sister Janet and brothers Phil and Joe). It's a pleasur to be a part of it all.

Lots of memories here, however, things were a little hazier then. I never served in Baden, but spent a lot of time at the Curling Club, Hockey Rink and of course, the Junior Ranks Mess. I used to slip down from Heidelberg for that "Canadian Exposure". Can't remember the name of the beer, but sure drank a lot of it. The damned Russians ruined a good thing when they became our friends. Feel free to contact me. Cheers.

Thanks for setting up this site-it's great to relive the memories! I taught History at BSS from 77-80. Who could ever forget Herr Bruder with his magnificent command of the English language. Barb and I were married there in 78 at the town hall in Iffy-then brunch at the casino. 22 years later we are still in touch with Badeners both civvys and military folks. I'm a retired vice-principal and we have two children, Andrew, 14 and Leah, 12. We sometimes try to explain what skiing in the alps was like but you just had to have been there, eh? Also Beer call and the announcement "drunk bus going North"! Thanks for the memories!

Just want to take this oportunity to send Christmas Best Wishes to all remaining members of the original group who made up the innitial # 601 Mobile Microwave Squadron. These were the people of all walks of life who endured always unique, sometimes appalling but most often fantastic conditions to create and establish the first "Mobile Links"; whether in Baden, Metz, Wintersburg, Grstenquin, Zweibrucken, Phillipsburg,Angevilliers, Marville or any of the rest. MAYBE there's someone (or a few,) who could consider creating a "601 Sqdn.web site???? At any rate the very best,of all you deserve,to each and everyone who reads this message and fit the profile. ^ 5's to you all Sincerely Gordie aka ( Hugh) Knight

Man, I get all teary-eyed everytime I come back here. It's amazing how the best memories stick with you forever! The 5 years I spent in Baden (1988 - Closure) will never be forgotten. (My youngest son was born there!) My fondest memories include my attempt at stardom with the Baden Playmakers and my Saturday night request show, "Not Necessarily the Top 40" on CFNS Radio. I'd love to hear from "The John Prine Lady", or anyone else who cares to drop a line. "Time it was and what a time it was, a time of innocence, a time of confidences. I attended Baden Senior from 1973-1976. My dad was Padre Bill Graham, mom Cathie, younger brother Scott. I've enjoyed getting in touch with some wonderful classmates in the past few months. I'd like to hear from more. The toughest people to find are the girls from high school, because of name changes. Anybody know where to find Marilyn Boyce (studied pharmacy at U of A), Joy and Charlotte Russell, Cathy and Barb Gray, Kathy Barnett, Donna Kent, Carol Bailey, Tammy MacGregor, Joanna Newlove, Solveig Rapley - geez, I could go on and on, but I'd just embarrass myself. I've found quite a few other classmates, but where are Doug Farmer, Chris Phillips, Jim Morrice, and Tim Houlahan? I'd sure like to contact teachers Peter Gazzola (math), Jamie Johnston (chemistry), Peter Bowers (French), Howard Stolz (physics), and Joanna McLean (biology). Let me know if you have any addresses for these folks.

We have found old friends while visiting this site. It is an excellent way to keep in contact with those people we served with in German during the 88-93 period until Baden closed. I was 13 at the time so I spent time in the elementry school as well as the high school. Seeing the pics of the high school sure brought back memories. I spent some of my time at BYC and in the Air Cadet Corps. It sure was nice to bump into this site. I hope to come back to it and read some more. I will also register myself in case some old friends are also here.

I was in Baden from 1990-closure. I was a Cpl with ARAF and worked in the Pay/Claims office. I really enjoyed my time there and miss it very much. I returned to Canada and within a year I managed to get a callout to Geilenkirchen for 10 months. I returned to Toronto and became a Commercial Pilot and am now hoping to get on with Air Canada and bid for the Toronto-Frankfurt routes so I can visit my old stomping grounds.

Well, I suppose it's time for a quick update; each time that I have the chance to visit this site I see new posts from people that I remember. This is a fantastic site. Hello to Anna, Sarah C. Chad Rowe, Rod and Dave (the duo), Mr. Bergeron, my TaeKwonDo friends, Dave Monk (who's finally a military pilot by the way!) Karen Brake and anyone else that I'm certain to have missed. Still in University (6th year), studying Law at Queen's after an undegraduate degree in Kinesiology from Western. I've secured a good job and will spend my summer of 2001 practicing (at the student level) business and intellectual property law (etc...) on Bay Street in Toronto. If you remember me, please give me a shout, I'd love to hear from you!

hey, was there in 74-78. remember the hockey, tying sweden 2-2 and the glory of it all. also remember mr. ryan's musicals, stephen, the teddy bear habit. also remember the trips to austria and london and endless hours playing guns in the old remenants of wwii next to the base. after Baden we moved to ottawa and i remember how disappointed i was and how i wanted to go back to Baden. it was like we were special, you know? oh well, life is good these days. find myself with a family and a 2 year old who is my life. my folks live in montreal and my dad is still crazy as ever. some may remember him and others doing the funseeker show on the radio station and their crazy xmas show with santa and his loopy helpers. if anyone wishes to contact me and remind me of the many things we did over there, please do...

Hi everyone! Just a little note to give our new e-mail address and residence. Phil got out of the military and took a position with CAE Electronics on a brand new flight simulator as part of the NATO flying training program in Cold Lake. Yes we know its strange to get out of the military and move there but we love it.

When we were posted to Germany in 1988, I was only nine months old but I remember my sister, now sixteen, starting school three days after we moved there. It was neat because my sister came home almost every day because of a bomb threat even though at first it was scary to think about.
