The Stealer's Hockey Stick was started to promote "esprit de corps" long before I was there in 1990. I would check the oldest date on the plaques to get a good idea of when it actually started. (unfortunately we have no closeup of the trophy)
You will see one placard for 3 RCR, "Q" Company, Maintenance Plattoon as we had stolen it and proudly displayed it in our Orderly Room between 1990-93. I'll try to remember who stole it from us, however the placards should give some sequence of the dates/timelines.

The rules were simple. The stealing of if had to be legal (so no breaking into an establishment after hours to get it). Basically if your section stole it, it had to be proudly displayed at the new location and those would try to steal it back or another section would steal it for their proud presentation. At some point you can't guard it all the time so there is always an opportunity for the theft. It may be randomly left unattended during function by those in possession giving an opportunity for another section to grab it. Someone could potential jump a counter to grab it off the wall and run away with it as long as there were no witnesses. If you were caught trying to steal it it would be given back and you would have a penalty for trying. I can't remember right of hand maybe had to buy a case of beer for the "Holding" unit, I think.

Michael Johnson added:
the idea idea behind it was that if you had it stolen your would have to pay some money, to the Military Police Fund for Blind Children
- no stealing during a Starfighter or when a unit was away on Exercise
- the trophy had to be kept in an accessible place, like a front lobby
- if you got caught stealing it; you donated money to the Military police fund for Blind Children
- if you had it stolen from you, you donated money to the Military police fund for Blind Children
CFB Lahr had it’s own Stealer Trophy; it was a cup on top of a board and every time it was taken you were supposed to add a 3/4 piece of plywood to the bottom making it 1/2 inch wider than the current bottom piece. Needless to say it was very big and very heavy, looked like a lazy pyramid.

I gave it to Steve Ethier back in the 70s at Baden,I haven't seen it since!

Mike Sharp ... 74-75 Communications detachment took it from the guard house. This happened after my repat from the comm unit. The story was in the Der Kanadier (sp) big photo with some of the comm staff around it. The photograph was widely circulated among com types . At first the trophy was stored in the crypto vault however in a sense of fair play it was relocated to a more accessible location.

Ron Zeegers : I remember being in 3 Mech CDO “A” coy HQ and we stole it, I believe it was from the 1 CAG group. That was in 76

Lawrence Laviolette
Back in 78 the fire hall had it Lawrence Laviolette In fact it was our shift who stole first as it was hiding in a supply office at the 3RCR, they forgot we had to inspect the building and the duty Sgt didn’t say a word as we carried it out
Robert K Bailey The best was when BYC staged an accident in front of PPCLI HQ to get the trophy from them.
Info from Jens Eckert, So I guess round 86/87 could be a time frame
people involved Fred „Buzz“ Harvy, Wayne Soyles, Chris Mueller (Victim)
All of us scouts were involved... ok, the exact details were worked out by our leaders. But all of us worked on it. I also think to remember, that the organization had to be done very accurately... and still, the day it took place, the ambulance medics that came to the scene hadn’t been informed - so the whole thing nearly blew
Jens Eckert I remember that , I was with the Scouts at the time...
….. unfortunately, the trophy was then stolen from us in a way, that was actually irregular... I think, just taking a key an walking in to get it out wasn’t quite, what it was all about;

Michael Johnson OMG i stole that from the lobby of the MP shack in Baden in 89 ish
Back in 78 the fire hall had it
well that was actually the Baden stealer trophy
. i was working as security Augmentation force and i stole it in early 1989 from the lobby of the MP shack, it was then placed in the 128 Bty building. it was then stolen by someone from our Regiment and it was taken to Lahr. The lahr stealers trophy was a cup on top of a board and every time it was stole you were supposed to add a 3/4 piece of plywood to the bottom and i think 1/2 inch wider than the current bottom piece. needless to say it was very big and very heavy, looked like a lazy pyramid. Anyway the hockey stick should never have been taken to lahr as it had its own trophy. the idea behind it was that if you had it stolen your would have to pay some money, i think 50 marks to the Military police Blind Kids Fund. 4 Ad regiment had units on both bases, so it was misappropriated from 128 Battery during and exercise. which was actually against the rules. no stealing during a starfighter of when a unit was away. the trophy had to be kept in an accessible place, like a front lobby, if you got caught stealing it you paid to the blind fund, if you had it stolen from you you pay.

I believe it may be in Borden at the museum. I received an email a few months back as a friend was on course and noticed my name on it, he sent me some pics etc. We had ‘obtained it’ from the MP shack in Baden, June 29th 1992. It was our first day in Baden, 5 of us from 4Svc Bn who were posted to Baden to assist with the clou

Denise Holloway Last time I saw this, it was suspended over the pit in 4 Svc Bn, V&R Plt.
Ron Balsdon
How many members can remember this trophy, I believe this is a picture of the last time it was misappropria

Bernie Lanteigne I was the last one to steal it from Base Supply for 1 AMS. Not sure what happened to it as I was posted out June 93 and just a few guys left back. Should have packed it up and taken it home

Rick Branje
Base transport had it when the base closed. Stole it from supply in fall 93. Some one from svc/bin broke his leg trying to get it after wards
