I had an idea to bring CFNS back to life for a day. As we all know, CFNS was the life line for most of us whether we wanted to hear the latest news from Canada, hear some of our favorite music, sell something on swap shop or get a message to someone. For those of us who worked there it was a labour of love and a heck of a lot of fun.

So, here's my idea. You may have read in a previous post that I have an internet stream that I use right now to satisfy my love for 70's music. All you need to listen is a computer and internet access (which apparently you have if you are ready this ) So I thought, since I have this resource, why not put CFNS back on the "air" for a day and have some fun. Folks can email me with hello messages for friends, request songs from their days in Baden, send recorded messages to say hello. I was thinking that the Canada Day weekend might work although it is the beginning of summer travel for some. If enough folks are interested in listening, I'll have to increase the numbers of listeners that can connect to the audio stream. So, I need to have an idea of how many folks are interested so i can order more for that day. It would also help me if you let me know what time zone you are in so I can adjust the broadcast time to meet the needs of the majority. If you have music to request, the sooner I know what they are, the better the chance I can get it if I don't already own it.

Now, for the CFNS alumni. If you have any clips of shows that you did, copies of the jingles that we used when Bill Peterson was the manager or some other memorabilia, let me know and we can see if we can get it to me. Digital copies would work best of course as they can emailed or transfered to an on,line storage are I have. For those interested, I am toying with the idea of using some free software that would let you talk from your home computer with me live on air.

For those of you not familiar with internet broadcasting, there is zero chance of getting a virus or spam from listening to this broadcast. So no worries there.

Hi Mike. I find I've been listening to your "new" CFNS more than I thought I would. Not only do I like the music, but it's nice to hear a familiar voice doing the DJ thing! Good job.

Thanks Sue. It's still under construction but I'm having fun with it. Who knows. if enough folks like what they hear, maybe we can dig enough old CFNS types out of radio retirement to get it back into full swing and cater to more tastes than just the 70's.

Re: "CFNS" I first became interested in "CFNS" in 1963 when we did our broadcasting from the back room of the Elementary School on the Base ( not the "QRA"),George Rae (the manager and projectionst of the Station Theatre became the Manager of the Radio Station (it has been awhile but I think my facts are close to the truth?) We used to have a morning show starting at 6AM monday to Friday and stayed on the Air till 11 PM on Sunday Night, We used to send the signal to 1,2,3 Wings by microwave and it
was picked up by the US Armed Forces Radio and relayed to their Techs after hours (We had a World map in the Studio, with pins showing the places we had requested their Bases and Stations


Irine(Crash) Caswell) was the Secretary at that time Ron Raush (Spl?) was the Manager. Would like to See more stories from the staff of that time frame,good or funny? Cheers TES

Jan. 24.2017..Seems to be several posting regarding the radio station. I worked there in 1955, when it was a very low wattage transmitter and the studio was a room in some building. I was there when a real studio was built with all new German studio and transmitter equipment. It was probably there for years after. The original transmitter would only reach into PMQs, so the upgrade allowed those living off base to listen. However..... the local German radio stations began to complain we were taking away their listeners. About one or two months after we went back on air, the base commander, G/C Christmas ordered it be shut down, for diplomatic reasons. Do anyone know when the radio station was reactivated? I was there from Dec. '54 to Sept. '55. I was previously in Metz and #6 Movments Unit, Paris. I worked at the 4 Wing Guard House and was posted to Penhold in Sept. '55. Pardon my typos. Best Regards.
